Is  Kaizer Chiefs better with an international or national coach?

Calls to have Kaizer Chiefs Coach Steve Komphela axed as the teams coach are gaining moment, as fans are highly disappointed by the team’s continuation of  poor playing for the new season.

Komphela defended the team by saying they lack confidence, which is why they play in a disappointing manner.

On Wednesday, AmaKhosi played their second game with Platinum Stars and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

The results angered AmaKhosi fans, leading to others saying that the team are better of coached by an international coach.

Below is a comparison of AmaKhosi coaches and PSL results, in the last five years:

Vladimir Vermezović, coach from 2009-2012

Originally from Belgrade, Serbia, the retired coach, Vermezovic joined Amakhosi in 2009, but he initially began coaching with PartizanBelgrade, a team from Belgrade. Vermezovic achieved success with the team when he reached the 1/8 finals of the UEFA cup in the season of 2004/05.

In 2012, Vermezovic was fired from Kaizer Chiefs and in May he returned to his first team.He ended his second spell in charge of Partizan in April 2013.

And then came back to South Africa in 2014 after he was appointed head coach of Orlando Pirates.

Under Vermezovic’s coaching, Amakhosi finished 3rd twice in the seasons 2009/10 and 2010/11 and finished in 5th place in the 2011/12 season.

Donald “Ace” Khuse, Coach from April-June 2012

Khuse is a retired South African football player, in 2009 he was appointed as coach assistance to Vermezovic, and when Vermezovic left South Africa, Khuse became the head coach for a short while.

Khuse is currently the interim coach of Amakhosi.

Stuart Baxter, coach from 2012-2015

Baxter is a Scottish former football player and manager; he joined the Glamour Boys in 2012.  He began coaching in 1986 and has coached clubs in Sweden, Norway, Portugal and Japan as well as the national teams of South Africa and Finland and the England under-19 team.

Baxter coached AmaKhosi for three years and in 2015 he parted ways with the team. In 2016 he then signed with SuperSports United as their head coach.

Under Baxter’s coaching AmaKhosi became league Champions in the 2012/13 season, and won 2nd place position in the 2013/14 season first place again in 2014/15 season.

Steve Komphela, coach from 2015- present.

Komphela is a South African former football player and current club manager; he joined Kaizer Chiefs in 2015. He began coaching in 2002 and has managed teams like the Dynamos, South Africa U-20, South Africa U-23, Platinum Stars and Free State Stars and Maritzburg United.

Komphela, is currently the couch of the Phefeni Glamour Boys and has played all 34 league games.

Under Komphela,s coaching, AmaKhosi finished the 2015/16 season in 5th place position.
