The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) has accused Former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela of being an alliance with the Democratic Alliance (DA).
This accusation follows after the State Capture report compiled by Madonsela implicated ANCYL President Collen Maine in have a link with the Gupta family.
The report revealed that Maine has been linked with the family and also claimed that the Gupta family has financed the leader’s home.
The youth league on Monday held a briefing to present their National Working Committee (NWC) statement.
ANCYL Leader Mlondi Mkhize said they are shocked that their leader and ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe are implicated in the report.
“It is our considered view that the two comrades are not even members of any state institution but were called to account to the then Public Protector about state capture,” said Mkhize.
Maine then said this was Madonsela’s ploy to discredit the ANC and promote the DA
“It is becoming lucid that the report was a DA sanctioned mission with the intention of casting aspersions to the ANC leadership in government and in the organization,” said the Leader.
“It is our considered view that the then Public Protector did what she did with the intention of launching the DA campaign ahead of 2019 National and provincial government elections,” said Maine.
“This has been confirmed by the resignation of the CEO of the public protector office to take a post with the DA in Tshwane municipality,” he added.
Last week the public protector’s office confirmed on Wednesday that its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Louisa Zondo, handed in her resignation.
The office said Zondo cited “personal matters” as a reason for her departure.
On the other hand the Maine urged current Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane to take the State capture report on a judicial review, saying the report undermines the Public Protector office.
“We further call on her to take all the necessary steps in restoring the stature of the Public Protector’s Office, even if it means laying complaints or opening cases against the out gone Public Protector to the most appropriate authorities and/or platforms,” said Maine.
Maine called on Mkhwebane to be careful of the staff that previously worked with Madonela.
“We request that you relook into the individuals in your office,” said Maine.
“We want to wish the ”drama queen” well in her new DA endeavours, for now may she rest in peace,” he added.
